Thanks for such a great Day 3! It has been fun getting to know each of you better, and further connect and collaborate. We are creating a very strong cohort, and we continue to be amazed (and proud) at how much we’ve accomplished in three short days! Please continue to share all your “products” and learnings in your digital and social environments. We want the WORLD TO KNOW how awesome we are!
Our creativity activities today were so fun – thanks for “playing” along! I did snap a few pictures along the way – and have shared them to our Picasa Album. Check them out (and laugh again, remembering all our fun activities)!
Here’s a recap of what needs to be done by tomorrow (because of today):
Share your Social Bookmarking Lab by adding the link to your blog (not as a post, but as a link).
Choose one of the creativity activities we did, and reflect on it in your blog.
Having spent time being creative, see if you would change any of the “groupings” that we initially made. Post a comment to the Creativity Posting found here.
If you are an official reviewer or researcher, spend 10 minutes reviewing or researching our “A Fair(y) Tale” BackChannel.
Tweet a reflection about one of the RWLs from today/tonight. Be sure to include the #maety1 (not meaty) hashtag.
Share one thing you’re proud of related to this course, and tweet about it – again, using the #maety1 hashtag.
Have a great evening, and don’t forget – tomorrow we will start at 9:00 (not 8:30). The room will be available (as always) anytime after 7:30. Hope you take some time to unplug, recharge and reconnect. I know I will!
Day 2 - DONE!
CONGRATULATIONS…..we made it through another day! Wow, how far we’ve come in just two short days. Seriously, think about where you started on Monday morning and all that we’ve learned since then! We’ve learned how to:
create a glog
tweet
blog
maintain an RSS feed
create (and maintain) a web presence
produce a digital story
visualize our Personal Learning Networks
use MANY new tech tools (Glogster, bubble.us, DabbleBoard, Jing)
and so much more (both formally and informally)!! I hope you take a few minutes to celebrate all that you’ve learned, and recognize how far you’ve come. Although it’s been intense, it’s also been amazing! Both Alison and I are so excited about the energy, enthusiasm, learning and growing that is happening. It’s contagious (and admittedly, sometimes overwhelming). Thanks for all your hard work – it’s very impressive!
In order to help you feel successful (and on task), each evening we will post a recap of what needs to be done. Here’s a recap of what needs to be done by tomorrow:
Post your PLN Visualization to your webspace. Feel free to a written reflection if you are so inclined!
Create a mindmap (using bubbl.us) based on the Digital Learning links/questions. Post your mindmap to your webspace, and add a written reflection.
Of course – as always – we also want you to keep contributing to our “community” by checking out the WikiSpace and sharing to the Apps We Love, and “Wish I Knew.” We encourage you to contribute a question, respond with an answer or share a resource. Together we can share our expertise, and build our skill set with one another!
Have a great evening, and don’t work too hard! If you need a little affirmation, check out the video below….and remember, YOU ARE GREAT and YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
How to ReTweet in Twitter
One of the tasks you were asked to complete in today’s Twitter Lab was to complete a “RT (retweet) of a tweet that you found interesting (and include the hasthag: #MAETY1).” Unfortunately in Twitter when you RT something, it is posted as is and you cannot (easily) add text to it. However – there is a way! Tonight I googled it, and found a relatively easy solution, and thought I would share it with all of you. You can read about it here, or take a couple minutes and watch my quick screencast to see step-by-step how to do it: http://screencast.com/t/oi6qs4RKbNs. Hopefully this helps!
Personally, I think TweetDeck is a great platform to organize and see my tweets – and very easy to use. I’d be happy to show anyone who is interested how I use it – just let me know! If anyone else has ideas or suggestions when using Twitter, feel free to share in the comments below!

P.S. I used Jing to create the screencast – an AWESOME free tool that I also HIGHLY recommend checking out!
Thanks for a GREAT First Day!
WOW! What a great first day – thanks for your time, attention, passion….and most importantly courage (and commitment) to learning new things. As you can see, this is a fast-paced class that will not only move quickly, but also challenge you to learn LOTS of new things every single day. Like all things new, this is sometimes frustrating, overwhelming, confusing. However, it is also an exciting opportunity to learn, explore and most importantly grow as a person, teacher and tech leader! The fact that you are investing in this time and opportunity demonstrates your commitment to your own professional growth and development, as well as your commitment to the students (and communities) that you work with!
We know that this was a very full first day – but we are very excited about all that we’ve been able to share and learn TOGETHER! All that we covered today was not a “one time deal” – but rather just an introduction to lots of great tech tools – Glogster, Twitter, RSS and blogging (among other things). We will be revisiting all of these tools throughout our time together, and exploring ways to integrate them into your teaching. The goal for today was to give you exposure to them, get you signed up and get you “started.” Remember – this is a process, and today was the first step.
Tonight Alison and I will be looking for your Social Presence google doc, and will provide initial feedback. If you are not able to fully complete all the tasks (tech labs), do the best that you can. This social presence is definitely a work in progress, and will be refined in the coming days and weeks. Be sure to also check out the RWLs for tonight, as that will get you prepared for tomorrow’s adventure!
Please take a few minutes to fill in the MAET Colleague Connections with your information. This will help everyone be connected as we begin our work together. If you don’t have all the information (yet), that’s fine – you can always go back and add to it as you acquire more!
Parking Update - FREE!
You may park for free (without a permit) in lots 75, 83, 89 and 91 during the summer semester.
You can find out more about parking on campus at: http://police.msu.edu/visitorparking.asp
Check out the interactive campus map to locate any of those parking lots. Just type in the lot number (in the search bar), and it will show you where they are! They're not all that close, but they're free! :-)
